Friedrich Seidenstücker

(Unna/Westfalen 1882–1966 Berlin)

Friedrich Seidenstücker is known as a great photographer and chronologist of daily life in post-World War I Berlin. He was born in 1882 in Unna/Westfalen, and studied engineering and sculpture in Berlin, before returning to photography and establishing himself professionally. The period between the 1920s and 1950s was a very productive one, and included important photographs made at the Berlin Zoo, as well as images of everyday life in the metropolis. He is also known for his pictures of the aftermath of the 1945 Allied raids on Berlin, and for his nude studies. Seidenstücker’s works were published, among other places, in numerous Berlin magazines, including 'Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung', 'Die Neue Linie' or 'Die Woche'.  Friedrich Seidenstücker died in Berlin in 1966.
